April McCaslin once went to London on a whim. Later, Atlanta and Dallas.

But this time, she's been missing since April 6 and her family fears that more than her wanderlust is to blame.

"She's done this before," said her sister, Karin Fain, who lives in Norman. "But she's always used her money and she hasn't this time, and that's what has the Tulsa police and everybody worried."

McCaslin, 48, has a mental illness and is prone to impulsive behavior. She has a history of taking trips without her family's knowledge, but she always leaves a trail of bank card transactions traceable by authorities, family members said.

This time, her bank card has been used only once since her family saw her, Tulsa police said.

Fain said family members fear that she went off her medication and that her resulting eccentric behavior could have rubbed someone the wrong way.

"She could have offended somebody, and they could have hurt her," Fain said.

She said her sister gets agitated at people who are smoking because their mother died as a result of lifelong cigarette use, and McCaslin once swatted away someone's cigarette.

She also is known for her over-the-top outgoing nature.

"My sister means well, and she loves kitty cats and Jesus, but sometimes people don't understand her," Fain said. "She's a very sweet person, but she has episodes where she doesn't take her medicine and she gets pretty ill."

McCaslin is known as a frequent jogger at River Parks. She loves running - she once ran a triathlon in Hawaii - and has been known to discuss sports and feed stray cats, Fain said.

Fain has been soliciting help from nonprofit organizations across the state, who have put McCaslin's description on their Facebook pages. But no one has come forward with information on her whereabouts.

"It's a sad situation because I feel she's slipping through the cracks," Fain said. "I'm just real concerned about her."

McCaslin is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds.

Anyone with information on her is asked to contact Tulsa police at 918-596-9222 or Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
