A Tulsa woman accused of kicking a 3-year-old down an apartment stairwell and beating the child with a belt is facing felony charges.
Lashonda Tashia Cummings, 24, was charged Friday with child abuse by injury, Tulsa County District Court records show.
A caller alerted police after they saw Cummings kick the girl down a stairwell and beat her with a belt on July 28 at the Highland Park Apartments, 5555 E. 47th Place, according to Cummings’ arrest report.
When officers arrived to investigate, Cummings initially denied police access to the apartment without a search warrant but relented after a police supervisor told her they would make entry with or without her consent out of concern for the child, the report reads.
Police found the girl naked, wet and shaking beneath a blanket inside the apartment with multiple lacerations to her back, shoulders, arm and head, according to the report.
Cummings reportedly told police the girl tried to run off and wouldn’t listen so Cummings punished her with a belt. She said the child was wet because Cummings attempted to wash the blood off of the girl after police arrived.
Cummings remains at the Tulsa Jail, where she is being held without bond pending a juvenile review hearing. She is also being held on multiple warrants for traffic violations.
