McALESTER — An inmate at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary is set to go to trial on a manslaughter charge in the beating death of another inmate.

The McAlester News-Capital reports that Aaron Prado is scheduled for trial Tuesday in Pittsburg County. Prado was charged with first-degree manslaughter in the July 2009 death of 45-year-old Kenneth Wayne Gore.

Prado was initially charged with first-degree murder but that was amended down to manslaughter.

Authorities said the two men got into a fist fight in a prison cell. Gore was unresponsive when officers arrived and was pronounced dead in the prison's infirmary.

Prado has pleaded not guilty to the charge. He is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after a Cleveland County jury convicted him of first-degree murder in 2008.
