OU gymnast honored in Nevada hometown after Olympics

SPARKS, Nev. — U.S. Olympian Jake Dalton is feeling the love from his hometown of Sparks.

Sparks Mayor Geno Martini declared Monday Jake Dalton Day in honor of the 20-year-old gymnast who graduated from Spanish Springs High School.

Dalton finished fifth in the individual floor exercises for the Americans at the 2012 Olympics in London.

His parents, Tim and Denise, joined him Monday in accepting an award and gold medal from the mayor and the city council. The couple owns Gymnastics Nevada in Sparks.

Dalton's now a student at the University of Oklahoma. He and his five teammates from the U.S. gymnastics team are expected to make another run at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
