Oklahoma is ranked No. 4 and Oklahoma State checks in at No. 19 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll, which was released on Saturday.

Oklahoma (No. 4) and Oklahoma State (No. 19) hold the same preseason positions in both the AP and USA TODAY/Coaches Top 25 polls.

USC is the AP’s preseason favorite, grabbing 25 of a possible 60 first-place votes.

Alabama (17 first-place votes) was No. 2, followed by LSU (16) and Oklahoma (1). Oregon was fifth. Michigan, at No. 8, received the other first-place vote.

LSU is ranked No. 1 in the Coaches Poll, which was released earlier this month. This is the first year with split No. 1 picks since 1997 (Penn State, Florida).

The SEC have five schools ranked in the top 10 — Alabama, LSU, Georgia (No. 6), South Carolina (9) and Arkansas (10) and six overall (Florida, No. 23).

The Big 12 also had a six schools in the Top 25 — Oklahoma, West Virginia (No. 11), Texas (15), OSU, TCU (20) and Kansas State (22). The Big 12 and SEC had the most schools represented in the poll.

The Sooners have been in the AP preseason poll’s top 10 each year since winning a national championship in 2000.

Saturday’s No. 4 ranking marks the fourth time in five seasons that the Sooners have been in the top five. Overall, Oklahoma has been in the top five in eight of the past 11 preseason polls.

Oklahoma State, the defending Big 12 champions, maintained its trend of preseason Top 25 appearances.

The Cowboys’ No. 19 ranking marks the third time in four seasons that OSU has been ranked in the preseason AP poll. In 2009 and 2011, OSU was No. 9.

The other times that OSU has been in the AP preseason poll was 1977 (No. 20) and 1985 (No. 16).
