MEDFORD — Authorities said a Grant County road has been closed because a bridge collapsed.

The sheriff's office told the Enid News and Eagle the bridge on Jackson Road collapsed east of Medford just after noon on Sunday when a heavy piece of equipment tried to cross it.

A sheriff's dispatcher said the equipment exceeded the 6-ton weight limit on the bridge, causing the bridge to fail.

The bridge is one-eighth of a mile east of County Road 970 on Jackson Road.
