OKEMAH -- An Oklahoma man was formally arraigned Wednesday on first-degree murder charges related to the death of his girlfriend last summer.
Kevin Sweat, 26, is accused of killing 23-year-old Ashley Taylor in July 2011.
Attorneys for Sweat, who is also accused of killing two girls in Weleetka in 2008, waived the reading of formal charges, and District Judge Lawrence Parish set an October trial date.
Defense attorneys indicated, however, that they would file a motion to continue the trial.
The preliminary hearing for the first-degree murder counts related to the deaths of Skyla Whitaker, 11, and Taylor Paschal-Placker, 13, is set for November.
