Auburn guard Cedrick McAfee joins TU basketball team

After one season in the Auburn program, guard Cedrick McAfee has transferred to the University of Tulsa.
A 6-foot-3, 175-pound native of Memphis, Tenn., McAfee now is attending classes at TU. He will be redshirted during the 2012-13 season and has three remaining seasons of eligibility.
While confirming McAfee's addition to the Golden Hurricane program, coach Danny Manning also reported that Blondy Baruti is "medically unable to continue his playing career at TU" because of a foot injury. TU has not described the nature of the foot injury. A 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, Baruti did not participate in recent workouts or play during exhibition games in Canada last week.
As a first-year freshman in 2010-11, Baruti appeared in 13 games. He was redshirted last season.
During his career at Melrose High School in Memphis, McAfee was a two-time Tennessee Class AAA All-State selection. As a junior, he led Melrose to its first state championship since 1983.
In July 2010, during a LeBron James summer camp game in Cleveland, Ohio, McAfee had a 47-point performance. As an Auburn freshman, he played in only three games.
"Cedrick is a very athletic player," Manning said. "He has a reputation as a scorer and he is going to be a competitor. Those are the types of young men that we are looking to continuously bring into our program - those that compete at a high level. We certainly expect him to do that for us."
