Tulsa's trash pickup to move up one day on Labor Day week

Tulsans will have their trash and recyclables picked up a day later than normal during Labor Day week next week.
The schedule is changing because there will be no trash service Monday, which is Labor Day.
Customers who normally have their trash picked up on Monday, for example, will have it picked up on Tuesday, with the change extended through Saturday.
The greenwaste site at 10401 E. 56th St. also will be closed Monday.
New trash hauler NeWSolutions began providing most of the city with a three-month, abbreviated trash program in July.
The program was developed in two weeks by the new hauler and the city's trash board after the city's former trash service provider, Tulsa Refuse Inc., said at the last minute that it couldn't continue collecting trash through the summer because of equipment and manpower difficulties.
On July 16, NeWSolutions began delivering trash and recycling carts to the city's 116,000 customers. Deliveries began in west Tulsa before moving to north Tulsa - save for the 22,000 customers in the northwest quadrant, where trash is collected by city workers - and then southward.
City spokeswoman Liz Hunt said that as of Friday, 40,123 customers had received carts. NeWSolutions is now distributing carts in east Tulsa and will move into south Tulsa soon, Hunt said.
Customer complaint calls about the new trash service continue to decline. In the first week that NeWSolutions provided service - July 2-6 - the city received 1,070 complaint calls, 57 percent of which came from backyard customers. Last week, the city received 326 complaint calls, 49 percent of which came from backyard customers.
City officials said this week that NeWSolutions has signed an amendment to its contract with the city to include recycling service.
The company had been providing the service without an agreement since recycling carts were distributed.

The change in collection days does not apply to customers in the northwest quadrant of the city who receive service directly from the city.
