We are accustomed to hearing negative things about young people today, so we appreciate the Tulsa World for the positive story on the almost 1,000 members of the Baptist Youth Evangelism Conference. We would also like to congratulate the teenagers for their amazing accomplishment of packaging 200,000 meals for the hungry in Egypt in three and one-half hours. An even more amazing feat was the fact that they raised the money for the food ingredients themselves.

The story failed to mention that it was made possible by Kids Against Hunger. We would like everyone to know that this organization has had this food distributed in more than 100 countries around the world and had more than 250,000 volunteers who participated in the packaging of the food last year.

The Tulsa location of Kids Against Hunger also provides this high-nutrition food for local distribution through church food pantries and food banks. Last year Gov. Mary Fallin asked us to provide food for the two main food banks in Oklahoma and we donated 100,000 meals for her Feed Oklahoma initiative.

The recipe is proven to save lives and improve health for the recipients around the globe. The formula consists of high-quality rice, fortified soy, six dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin-mineral mixture.

Again, congratulations to the youth involved in the event for giving of themselves. As you can tell in the article from the statements made by the youth, they all received more than they gave that day.

Editor's note: Horn is president, CEO and director of Kids Against Hunger - Tulsa, and a member of that group's corporate board of directors.
