Holmes delivers for Coweta

WAGONER - Three touchdowns in the final 6:16 gave a packed stadium one of the most exciting Wagoner County bowls in history.
Coweta quarterback Hayden Holmes hit Randall Smith with a 17-yard touchdown pass with 2:21 remaining in the game to give the Tigers a 36-34 road victory over Wagoner on Friday night.
"This win means the world and I just have to give all the glory to God," said Holmes, who finished with 298 passing yards and four touchdowns. "We came out prepared and fought like crazy."
Coweta is ranked No. 6 in Class 5A, while Wagoner is top-ranked in Class 4A.
The fourth-quarter flurry began when Holmes hit Adam Price for a 25-yard TD pass and a 30-28 Coweta lead.
Wagoner quickly responded with a 57-yard run by Lawrence Evitt to give the Bulldogs a 34-30 lead.
But Coweta started its game-winning drive from its own 46 with 5:08 to play.
"All week I just focused on being calm, cool and collected," Holmes siad.
The senior quarterback hit 5-of-6 for 44 yards on the final drive that ended with the throw to Smith, who was all alone in the back of the end zone, but still had to sustain a hit and hold the ball.
"A win like this gives us great confidence," said Coweta coach Bubba Burcham. "They (Wagoner) are returning state champions in 4A and a great football team."
Evitt's 57-yard touchdown run came on third down and helped him to a 172-yard game on 13 carries.
Coweta had built a 17-7 lead before Wagoner scored three TDs for a 28-17 lead.
Evitt's electrifying 81-yard touchdown run in the third capped Wagoner's 21-point surge into the third quarter.
