Learn more about seeds through ongoing
activities with the Garden. Kids can dissect a
seed, go on a seed scavenger hunt and make
a seed ball to take home.

TUESDAY
The Tulsa Garden Center presents “Chloramine:
How will it Affect Tulsa’s Water Supply,”
10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria Ave.
The informational lecture will cover the
effects of adding chloramine to Tulsa’s water
supply and will be presented in the morning
and in the evening with the same information
discussed at both sessions. To meet
new and stricter Environmental Protection
Agency standards, the city announced plans
to convert the secondary disinfectant used
to treat the city’s drinking water from chlorine
to chloramine. Though most Tulsa water
users won’t be negatively affected, fish
owners and kidney dialysis patients will be
directly affected. Joan Arthur, senior project
engineer of the City of Tulsa, will be presenting
the lecture and answering questions.

Grandparents Day in the Linnaeus Teaching
Garden, 9 a.m. to Noon
Linnaeus Teaching Garden, Woodward
Park
In addition to visiting the garden and
taking a free tour, a photographer will be
on site to take complimentary photos of
grandparents and family members. The first
50 grandmothers will be given a nosegay
and local Scouts will assist with parking and
tours. Light refreshments will be served.

Water-wise Gardening: Rain gardening and
Xeriscaping, 10 a.m.
Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden
Conservationist Kevin Gustavson of the
Water Quality Programs of the Oklahoma
Conservation Commission will share information
about how to reduce storm water
runoff and help protect water quality with
a rain garden. Gustavson will also discuss
xeriscaping, the principles behind the style
and its advantages.
World of Insects, 10 a.m.
Grogg’s Green Barn, 10105 E. 61st St.
Bring the children out to learn about the
exciting world of insects and the benefits
many of the bugs can bring to the garden.
Children will also get to help with releasing a
few insects at the store.

The Origins of our Food, 10 a.m.
Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden
Garden director Todd Lasseigne will share
stories behind the origins and history of
plants that provide some of our most common
foods and spices.

Tulsa County Conservation Commission
will be teaching the benefits of rainwater
collection and will also show how to make
affordable rain barrel units as well as sell
some containers.

Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden
Family herbalist Jeremy John Myers will
talk about the plants used for their healing or
beneficial properties and lead walks at noon
and 2 p.m. to identify native plants with
herbal benefits.
SEPT. 30
Members’ Day, 4-7 p.m., Oklahoma Centennial
Botanical Garden
Members of the garden can bring a picnic
dinner and enjoy the garden trails in the
early evening. Garden director Todd Lasseigne
will talk about lesser known bulbs to use
in your landscape at 4:30 p.m. and members
will receive a small gift of bulbs while supplies
last. Registration is required.
