NORMAN - Casey Walker will return to the Oklahoma football program next Monday, Sooners coach Bob Stoops said following Wednesday’s practice.
Walker, a senior defensive tackle, has been away from the team but attending classes. He stepped away for “personal reasons,” Stoops had announced exactly one week early.
“I had a good meeting with Casey Walker today,” Stoops said. “He’s all set to return on Monday. That’s a positive.”
Stoops was asked if he would immediately jump back into the defensive tackle rotation.
“We’ll see how he’s doing,” Stoops said. “But I would anticipate he would, sure.”
Walker played in 12 games last season, with eight starts. He had 17 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and a sack.
OU had to use David King and Jamarkus McFarland almost exclusively at defensive tackle in last Saturday’s 24-7 win at UTEP.
Walkers’ return will help strengthen a defensive line that will have two weeks to prepare for the Big 12 Conference opener on Sept. 22 against run-based Kansas State and quarterback Collin Klein.
