GLENPOOL - Just like the U.S. Postal system, nothing could keep No. 1 Cascia Hall from its appointed rounds Friday night. Well, maybe some lightning did delay the Commandos a bit, but the rain and wet conditions could not stop a strong 37-0 victory over No. 10 Glenpool before a soggy crowd of 500 at Chaffin Sports Complex.
The game was delayed for 96 minutes due to lightning, but nothing could stop running back Abrm McQuarters. McQuarters, who played only two quarters rushed for 172 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns.
McQuarters scored on runs of 58 and 46 yards.
Quarterback Tate Swab was just as sharp. He hit 6-of-7 passes for 84 yards, including a 35-yard TD strike. Swab also intercepted a pass while playing defensive back.
How dominant was 2-0 Cascia Hall? Glenpool (0-2) had only two first downs in the game, rushed for 20 yards and crossed into Commando territory only twice.
McQuarters got the scoring started for Cascia Hall. He raced 58 yards up the middle to score with 8:44 left in the first quarter. Miguel Rosendo kicked the extra point.
Charles Cook made it 13-0 for the Commandos. He raced four yards, but the kick failed with 2:58 left in the quarter.
With Cascia Hall running so well, quarterback Swab switched things up and hit Ernie McKee for a 35-yard scoring toss to make it 20-0 with 57 seconds left in the first.
Camden Cecehini had a 30-yard TD run midway through the second quarter. Rosendo's kick pushed the total to 27-0.
McQuarters raced up the middle and shed would-be tacklers for the Commandos' last score of the half on a 46-yard run. Michael Bloomfield came in for the extra point kick and a 34-0 lead.
Rosendo got the only points of the second half. He kicked a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
