Suspect in New Year's shooting death arrested

A Tulsa man who is charged in connection with a New Year's day fatal shooting was arrested Friday.
Brandon Lamont Phillips, 22, was booked into the Tulsa Jail on charges of first-degree manslaughter-heat of passion and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. He is accused of fatally shooting Michael Anthony Hooks, 38, during a Jan. 1 argument, according to police and court records.
He was charged Jan. 9 and later that month was named to the Tulsa Police Department's Most Wanted list.
Phillips was arrested at an apartment in the 700 block of North Country Club Drive about 1 p.m. Friday, police said. His bail is set at $570,000.
Hooks, also known as Julius V. Hooks, was shot in the parking lot at the Brown Apartments, 5323 E. 12th St., police said.
The shooting happened during an argument after Hooks left a party at one of the apartments. He got into an altercation with two men and was shot once in the left hip, police said.
He died of his injuries on Jan. 3, according to court records.
In 2011, Phillips was convicted of distribution of a controlled substance, according to court records.
