Court date pushed back for former OSU basketball player Darrell Williams

The sentencing for former Oklahoma State basketball player Darrell Williams has again been delayed.
On Friday morning, a Payne County judge was set to hear the defense's case for a new trial. On Wednesday afternoon, the judge granted a request by the state and the defendant to postpone the hearing to 9 a.m. Sept. 28.
Sentencing had been scheduled for three weeks ago before the defense filed a last-minute motion for a new trial. If the motion is denied at the next court date, the judge will proceed with sentencing.
Williams, 22, was convicted July 23 of two counts of rape by instrumentation and one count of sexual assault stemming from a December 2010 off-campus party. The jury recommended one-year sentences on the rape convictions and no time for the assault.
Williams, who would have been a senior forward on the basketball team, has remained jailed since the night he was convicted.
In the original motion for a new trial, Williams’ attorneys cited eight reasons the conviction should be thrown out, including new evidence and the possibility Williams was misidentified for another basketball player.
The defense filed another motion for a new trial on Monday. The motion and supporting documents are under seal.
