This week you can help raise funds for breast cancer research, hit up Rhea Lana's for some consignment shopping or attend one of two author events put on by BookSmart Tulsa.
Rogers County Fair
The 98th annual Rogers County Fair is set for Thursday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Claremore Expo Center, 400 Veterans Parkway.
Enjoy carnival rides and games, food, live entertainment and kids activities. Team roping, old-fashioned blacksmithing demonstrations and numerous vendors will also be part of the event.
Fair attendees can also watch competitors in the Texaco Country Showdown, a national country music talent search that will hold a competition at the fair.
Visit tulsaworld.com/rogerscountyfair for a full schedule of events and activities, or call 918-341-8688 for more information.
Race for the Cure
The Tulsa Komen Race for the Cure will be at ONEOK Field, at the northeast corner of Archer Street and Elgin Avenue, on Saturday, Sept. 15. The event, featuring timed and untimed 5k races, is a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which funds breast cancer research and education. The event is also a celebration of survivors and serves to honor those who did not beat the disease.
Race-day registration opens at 6 a.m. The timed 5k begins at 7:30 a.m., the untimed 5k begins at 9 a.m., and a 1-mile fun run begins at 10 a.m. A survivor ceremony will be held at 8:15 a.m. Cost is $40 for the timed 5k; $35 for the untimed 5k and fun run; $25 for the youth fun run and untimed 5k and $30 for the youth timed 5k.

And at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, T.C. Boyle, author of the novel "San Miguel," will be at Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main St. Both events are free.
Rhea Lana consignment sale
For those who can't get enough of consignment sales, there's another opportunity to shop starting Sunday, Sept 16.
Rhea Lana's of Broken Arrow is holding its fall/winter sale Sunday, Sept. 16 through Thursday, Sept. 20 behind the Bank of Oklahoma at 81st Street and Aspen Avenue. Items sold include kids clothing, shoes, maternity wear, toys and baby equipment such as strollers and cribs. Admission is free.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser for participating schools on Monday, Sept. 17. Shoppers can pick up and fill out a "Shop for Schools" flier from their school and submit it as they checkout after completing their shopping. Ten percent of the sale will then be donated to the school's Parent-Teacher Association.
Regular-price sale hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. Half-price sale hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20.
Hunting seminar
Broken Arrow's Bass Pro Shop, 101 Bass Pro Drive, will offer a whitetail deer hunting seminar at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18. The store's hunting department manager, Chris Edwards, will teach the free session in the store's seminar room. For more information, call 918-355-7600.
