Class 4A McLain clawed past 5A Central 25-21 on a wet, windy night Thursday night at Booker T. Washington's S.E. Williams Stadium.

After stopping the Braves on fourth and 1 with 8:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, McLain went on a 15-play, seven-minute drive that was capped off by a 9-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Demetri Walker to Jaelen Bledsoe to take the 25-21 lead with 1:23 remaining.

"It felt really good. I wish all of our drives went like that. Finally, our offense is coming around. They're working together and they're working hard, so I'm proud of them," said McLain head coach Jarvis Payne Sr., referring to the final drive.

The Titans improved to 3-0. The Braves fell to 0-3.

Walker led the way for McLain with 291 yards passing and four touchdowns. He also added 74 yards rushing.

"Demetri is a heck of a player. I'd love to have 11 of him. He's not our only player, though. We've got a lot of good guys that made a lot a plays for him to help him out," said Payne.

McLain trailed 21-13 entering the fourth quarter, but with 11:11 remaining in the quarter, Walker threw a 19-yard touchdown to Nigel Carter to trim the Braves' lead to two at 21-19.

McLain opened the scoring with a Walker 68-yard touchdown pass to Carter on the game's second play. The Titans, though, failed on a two-point conversion attempt.

Central responded at once, with a 65-yard touchdown scamper from junior quarterback DeAngelo Brewer. The Braves converted their two-point conversion to make it 8-6 with 10:56 remaining in the first quarter.

The next score came on the first play of the second quarter, where McLain capped an 11-play drive with a 32-yard pass from Walker to Bishop Louie.

The Braves came back with a five-play touchdown drive that was capped by Brewer's 12-yard touchdown run to take a 15-13 lead.
