After starting the season winless in two tries, Holland Hall was able to muster big plays en route to a 41-18 victory over Oklahoma City rival Casady on Friday.

"We needed a win," Holland Hall coach Tag Gross said. "We've felt like we were really close, and I feel like this is the kind of team that after getting one, can get others. They just need to figure out how to do it."

Holland Hall (1-2, 1-0 Southwest Preparatory Conference) scored the game's only first-quarter points with a 35-yard field goal from kicker Drew Klinghagen before Casady put the Dutch on their heels.

Cyclones starting quarterback Drew Cook left the game with an injury late in the first quarter and was replaced with receiver Davis English in the Casady backfield.

English, running out of the wildcat formation, gave the Cyclones (2-1, 0-1) a 6-3 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run to open the second quarter.

Casady increased its lead minutes later as an interception from sophomore quarterback Cooper Gross was returned 31 yards for a touchdown by Cyclone linebacker Blake Baldwin with 9:10 left in the first half.

It didn't take long for the Dutch to start chipping at Casady's 12-3 lead, however, as Holland Hall increased its offensive tempo and started relying on its running attack.

A 2-yard run by Dutch running back Corey Taylor capped an 80-yard drive during the ensuing possession, helping to close the deficit to 12-10 with 7:16 in the half.

"When we went to the no-huddle, it just started clicking," Gross said. "I think with the pace, you could really tell on the field that they were worn out."

Holland Hall's defense came up with its first of two interceptions returned for touchdowns on Casady's next drive, as defensive back Jordan Sexton picked off backup quarterback T'Quan Wallace for a 13-yard score.

The Holland Hall defense and special teams units were dominant in the second half, surrendering just 32 yards and blocking a punt for a touchdown.

"Our kids had an adjustment for everything they had," Gross said.
