Step inside the one-story home in Adams Estates, and its captivating charm is instantly evident. Built in 1948 and remodeled in 2007, the 2,690-square-foot residence exudes a welcoming feel that is both elegant and comfortable.
Catherine Fee purchased the home soon after its renovation. Originally a two-bedroom home with one and one-half baths, the property now includes a spacious new master suite, updated kitchen, large raised deck and several other improvements.
“I love this house,” said Fee. “It has a nice feel to it, and it’s very comfortable. All the windows make every season enjoyable.” Beautiful landscaping changes colors with the seasons and draws hummingbirds as well.
The original hardwood floors have been refinished. Tile flooring accentuates the gourmet kitchen, which has a large two-level prep/eating bar that seats four. Granite tops the sea-green bar. Complementary ivory cabinetry is accentuated with bead board and a few glass doors. Abundant cabinet and counterspace come in handy when entertaining.
“I really enjoy the kitchen. It’s easy to cook and entertain here,” Fee said. “You can have the fire going in the living room, and people can mingle. It’s easy to set out food on the counters when entertaining, or everyone can come in to the dining room. It flows really well, and it’s great during the holidays.”
The new master suite is tucked at the back of the house. The bedroom has enough space to create several different areas, such as a sitting area and study. A corner fireplace is embellished with stone from floor to ceiling.
His and her walk-in closets and a distinctive master bath complete the pleasant retreat. A Jacuzzi tub is the centerpiece to the warm modern bathroom, which includes a separate shower as well as a dual vanity flanked by storage cabinets.
Easy access to the utility room, which doubles as a mud room, is one of the popular features in most of today’s new homes.
The utility room connects to the formal dining room, a design element that makes cleanup after entertaining a convenient venture.
The other two bedrooms and a study are on a separate wing from the master suite.
“The front room is designed to be a study,” Fee said. “It has a built-in area for a computer and is wired for speakers. It does have French doors in the garage that could be easily put back on. We are using it as a bedroom now.”
A raised deck spanning the back of the house is perfect for outdoor entertaining with two stairways to the backyard.
“Another good feature of this house is a crawl space that is big enough to stand up in,” Fee said. “Accessible from the outside on the west side of the bedroom, you can store Christmas decorations and all kinds of stuff down there. You can also use it as a storm shelter during bad weather.”
According to Fee, neighbors come together for various events throughout the year. “We have Fourth of July celebrations and holiday parades. Kids go Christmas caroling. It’s a very open, safe and friendly neighborhood. I love it.”
