Oklahoma’s unemployment rate continued to rise as it reached 5.1 percent in August, according to data released Friday morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Last month’s rate was up from 4.9 percent in July and 4.7 percent in June. A year ago at the same time, the state’s rate was at 6.3 percent.
Nationwide, state unemployment rates were little changed for the month.
Compared to the same time a year ago, 42 states and the District of Columbia registered unemployment rate decreases. Seven states had increases and one had no change.
Nevada continued to record the highest unemployment rate at 12.1 percent in August, while North Dakota again had the lowest rate at 3.0 percent.
