On behalf of the entire Tulane University community, I want to publicly thank Tulsans for the overwhelming support and love you extended to Devon Walker and his family. The Tulsa community joined together and supported Devon in ways that touched the hearts of all of us.
Devon is an outstanding Tulane student-athlete and his will to endure these events are and will continue to be an inspiration for us all. I know he and his family drew strength from the wonderful outpouring of support, starting from the moment of his injury and continuing until he left Tulsa.
There are too many examples of generosity and caring to name each individually, but the support of all the wonderful people at the University of Tulsa as well as the dedicated staff of professionals at St. Francis Hospital must be recognized.
Your concern and compassion were touching and helped us get through a very difficult period. As a Tulsa native and as an alumnus of the University of Tulsa, I have never been more proud of my hometown. I am truly grateful, as are the Walkers, and the entire Tulane family. Because of what you have done for us, we will forever consider you part of our Tulane family.
Editor's note: Tulane football player Devon Walker sustained a fractured spine during his team's game at Tulsa on Sept. 8. He spent the next 10 days at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa before moving to an undisclosed rehabilitation facility Sept. 18. Tulane athletic director Rick Dickson is a native of Tulsa and former TU athletic director.
