Tulsa's water supply earns fluoridation award
Tulsa is one of 24 public water supplies in the state to be recognized recently for its fluoridation.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control gave the Water Fluoridation Quality Award to 2,500 water systems in 33 states, according to a press release from the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
It is an award for a "consistent level of optimally fluoridated water" in 2011, according to the release.
"The Oklahoma State Department of Health supports community water fluoridation and recognizes the practice as safe, cost effective and beneficial to all who drink and use the water," Dr. Jana Winfree, chief of dental health service at the state Health Department, said in a statement. "Widespread community water fluoridation prevents cavities and saves money, for both families and the health care system."
