Year: Sophomore

Position: Running back

Height: 6-2

Weight: 203

Hometown: Dallas

Major: Undecided

As a true freshman last year, Roland was the No. 4 back and had 17 carries for 95 yards and no touchdowns. After the dismissal of Herschel Sims over the summer, he moved up the depth chart and has scored four TDs in 2012. Backup Jeremy Smith sustained an apparent ankle injury Saturday against Texas, which could cause Roland's role to increase.

You don't want to see a teammate get hurt, but when it happens, do you view it as an opportunity for you?

It's my time to shine, pretty much. I hate to see that Jeremy got hurt, but I just have to step up until he gets back and play my role on the team.

What has it meant to you to see your production increase this year?

It just tells me all my hard work I put in this summer and last spring is paying off and I just need to work hard.

Do you like having another bye week so soon?

It hurts because we lost and now we have two weeks off ... but we just take this time to practice as a team and get better and get our legs back.

What do you plan to do Saturday?

Be lazy as I can for once. Eat some of my mom's home cooking. I'm going back home. I'll go to my high school's game (Friday), because they're doing pretty good.

What's your favorite dish your mom cooks?

Her fried chicken. It's the best.

Is there a class you're in this semester that you really like?

Rhythm of Music. I listen to a lot of music, so I think it's a pretty good class for me.

What kind of music do you like?

I really listen to everything. Before games I listen to mostly rap, though.

You and (linebacker) Lyndell Johnson were friends before coming here. What role did he play in your commitment?

I've known Lyndell since we were in elementary school. We played basketball together and pretty much grew up together. When I heard he was committed here, I starting thinking twice, because I was originally talking about going somewhere else.

What do you like to do outside football?

Pretty much just hang out with my friends. I've got some close friends up here. Go shopping, I like to do that.

Where do you shop?

I try to go to Oklahoma City, the outlet mall or Penn Square. Or when I get the chance, I go to Dallas.
