Has Oklahoma's defense tipped its entire hand?

Oklahoma's three-game schedule so far may have kept the defense from showing its entire defensive package. A look back: Against UTEP, OU played its first game under a new scheme introduced by defensive coordinator Mike Stoops. The Florida A&M game was pretty vanilla in its approach, since the Sooners outmatched their opponent. And then Kansas State's unconventional offense probably kept away many of the blitzing packages. Could OU show plenty of new blitz packages against Texas Tech that haven't yet been seen?

Don't let the sun go down on me

Does an earlier start make a difference for the Sooners? Maybe, maybe not. But the Sooners have an ugly trend recently of losing night conference games. Dating back to 2011, OU has dropped four consecutive games under the lights: Texas Tech (41-38), at Baylor (45-38), at Oklahoma State (44-10) and Kansas State (24-19). Bob Stoops' answer to a question about playing Texas Tech (2:30 p.m.) and Texas (11 a.m.) in the next two weeks? "When you lose a game, you don't get the night games as much."

OU trying to avoid unprecedented start under Stoops

A Bob Stoops-coached team has never started Big 12 Conference play with an 0-2 record. The Sooners are about a six-point favorite in Saturday's game at Texas Tech, but OU hasn't won in Lubbock since 2003. Lose that game and OU will look for its first win in a rivalry game against Texas. It's safe to say that there is a lot riding on this game.

BY THE NUMBERS

0: Times the Sooners have started Big 12 play with an 0-2 record.

1: Wins needed by Landry Jones to tie Steve Davis as Oklahoma's winningest quarterback.

18: Consecutive games that OU has won immediately following a regular-season loss, dating back to 2004.

22: Average punt return yardage of Justin Brown, which ranks fifth nationally.

238: All-purpose yards by Roy Finch in the 2011 meeting between OU and Texas Tech.
