Number of school districts opposed to grading system now up to 201

More than 200 school districts statewide have now joined a coalition of school administrators who are urging the state Board of Education to delay the release of the new A-F school report cards Monday.
The number had grown to 201 as of 2:12 p.m. today, up from 107 as of close of business Friday.
In a hastily arranged press conference in Oklahoma City Thursday, numerous school superintendents said the way the grades are calculated is faulty and do not reflect an accurate representation of a school's quality and performance.
Instead, they said the complex formula is weighed so that grades reflect the socioeconomic demographics of a school or district, rather than quality of instruction.
School administrators from across the state -- representing large, small, rural, urban, affluent and poor districts -- said they aren't opposed to accountability and welcome it.
They said they just want to make sure it is an accurate reflection of their districts and schools.
Coalition members say more districts in the state are joining the group by the hour.
"Somehow, we have lost the guiding principle that the Legislature had when they passed A-F," Oklahoma City Superintendent Karl Springer said at Thursday's news conference. "Quality instruction was totally left out of the calculation (of grades). We want to talk about solutions and work with the state Board of Education to provide input."
The state board will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday in a special meeting to vote to certify the grade results. The state Department of Education plans to release the grades to the public in the afternoon.
