Afghanistan: As of Monday, at least 2,000 members of the U.S. military had died as a result of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, according to an Associated Press count.
The latest deaths reported by the military:
- Two soldiers died Saturday in Chak district, Wardak province, Afghanistan, of gunshot wounds suffered while on dismounted patrol. They were Warrant Officer Joseph L. Schiro, 27, of Coral Springs, Fla., and Staff Sgt. Justin C. Marquez, 25, of Aberdeen, N.C. Both were assigned to the 1st Special Forces Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
