A manslaughter charge has been filed against a Tulsa man on an allegation that he fatally stabbed another man Tuesday.

Eric Jason Spears, 27, was arrested Tuesday and was released on bail about 11:30 p.m., before officials knew that the stabbing victim, 24-year-old Devin Maggs, had died at a hospital about 11 p.m.

Spears was charged with first-degree manslaughter on Wednesday and was re-arrested, Tulsa County District County Court and jail records show.

Police who had been called to a disturbance in the 800 block of North Gary Place about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday found Maggs there. He had been stabbed multiple times and was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, police said.

Officers said Maggs had confronted Spears about damage to Maggs’ vehicle. The damage reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a woman, Officer Jillian Roberson said.
