Bruce Edward DoRemus, age 87, longtime resident of Tulsa, died at home Saturday, October 6, 2012. He was born October 5, 1925 in Enid, Oklahoma to Albert E. and Henriette DoRemus. Bruce joined the Navy in WWII and became a medic (Corpsman) attached to the Marine’s 2nd Division, he served with the Marines at Guadalcanal. He then served at the Allied Invasion of Salerno, Italy. After his ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, hanging on to debris, he was rescued hours later. He then served at Omaha Beach on the D-Day Invasion. While re-crossing the English Channel his second ship was sunk with Bruce, again hanging on to debris, barely alive and suffering from severe hypothermia. After recuperating from D-Day wounds and while being ferried with Marines, just off the coast of the Philippines, his third ship was torpedoed and sunk leaving him adrift in the oil and debris but he was rescued a day later. After the war he attended OU, played football for Bud Wilkerson in the glory days and obtained his Master’s degree from OU in Education. He later coached around the State, settled in Tulsa, taught science, history and biology in this area until retirement. One of his proudest accomplishments was being the author of 3 books. He is survived by wife Myrna, two brothers, Michael and Robert DoRemus. He is also survived by son Terrel and wife Debbie DoRemus, daughter Michele DoRemus, all from Tulsa, and one step-daughter, Fauna and husband Richard Navarre from Dearborn, MI. He is survived by eight grandchildren; Damon DoRemus and wife Amy, Ryan DoRemus and wife Allison, Kelsey and husband Chris Vedda, Kelton DoRemus, Mackenzie and Abigail Furgason, and Clarissa and Connor Dunn. He is also preceded by four step-grandchildren; James Potter, Chris and Breanna Navarre, and two great-grandchildren; Gabriel and Jack DoRemus. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, former wife Nelda, and daughter Melanie Goodman. A funeral service will be held 11 A.M. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3702 S. 90th E. Ave., Tulsa, OK. 74145. The family requests donations in his memory be sent to The Youth Group at Aldersgate United Methodist Church or flowers to be sent to the church between the hours of 9 and 11 A.M.
