For more OU stories.

Loss could speak volumes to either squad across the river

It's easy to separate yourself from all of the coach-speak when you take a hard look at the schedules. The loser will be saddled with a second league loss and, even if that team won out after this game, it could be hard to win a tiebreaker scenario. Most years, the winner of OU-Texas grabs an early Big 12 advantage. In 2012, there's much more to lose if you're on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Line of scrimmage will prove best battleground factor

Ponder this: The team that rushed for more yards in the OU-Texas series has won in each of the past 14 years. The only exception is 2006, when both schools rushed for the same amount of yardage. OU won 28-10 in that year. Texas will produce a big test for Oklahoma's offensive and defensive fronts. The Sooners must win the line of scrimmage to produce a run game on offense, and stop Texas' talented running backs on defense.

The Sooners must put heat on the quarterback

Texas quarterback David Ash has answered many of his preseason critics. After six starts as a true freshman in 2011, Ash has completed more than 70 percent of his passes in every game this season. OU must try to find a way to make Ash uncomfortable in the pocket with pressure. The Sooners showed signs of a consistent pass rush last week against Texas Tech, but must improve that even more against the Longhorns.

BY THE NUMBERS

1: Big 12 conference victories separating Oklahoma (88-27) and Texas (87-28) since 1998.

5: Multi-touchdown games by OU backup quarterback Blake Bell.

21: Oklahoma has won 20 consecutive games when holding an opponent to 21 points or less.

32: Victories by Landry Jones as a starting quarterback, tied with Steve Davis for most in school history.

95.2: Scoring percentage in the red zone by the Sooners' offense this season (20-of-21).
