After all the talk and money spent, day one is officially in the books for the new Tulsa trash collection program. New technology at its best. Here is how it went at my house:

7:45 a.m.: Down my street comes a three-wheeled scooter with a dumpable bin on the back. It looked a lot like the kind that had been used by the previous trash collection folks for the past 20 years. The scooter was accompanied by two trash collection techs. They proceeded to collect the bags of trash out of the new bins and throw them into to the scooter dump bin, almost falling into the deep bins while collecting the bags.

Watching this new technology in action was a thing of beauty as opposed to the old way of collecting the trash bags and throwing them into the scooter dump bin - kind of déjà vu all over again.

9:25 a.m.: The recycles truck arrives also accompanied by two trash collection techs. They rolled our recycle bin out to the back of the truck where, I supposed, the mechanical lifting device is located.

The two techs together proceeded to physically pick up the bin and dump it into the back of the truck. Ah, this new technology.

I'm not sure but there may be a civics lesson here somewhere. It's great to live in a progressive community.
