For more OU stories.

Playing not to lose

The loser of Saturday's game is a Big 12 Conference longshot at best. The Sooners would slip to 1-2 in the league (for the first time since 1999, Bob Stoops' first season at OU) with games against West Virginia, Baylor and Oklahoma State remaining. The Longhorns would fall to 1-2 with Baylor, Texas Tech and Kansas State upcoming. Usually this game sets up the league champion. This year, it sets up one of the conference also-rans. Weird.

History in the making

Heading into Saturday's kickoff, the only OU quarterbacks to post 3-0 records against Texas as starters are Jimmy Harris, Steve Davis and Jamelle Holieway. If Landry Jones wins Saturday, he'll join that select group. Heading into kickoff, the only OU quarterbacks to win 32 career starts are Davis and Jones. Jones guns for historic win No. 33. Talk about a potentially career-defining day.

They call it a streak

With rare exceptions like 2007, the Sooners beat their Red River rivals in bunches. Bob Stoops won five in a row beginning in 2000. Barry Switzer won his first three matchups with Texas, and later his last four. Bud Wilkinson reeled off six straight wins during his 1952-57 heyday. That bodes well for an OU team coming in off back-to-back wins in the Cotton Bowl, 55-17 last year and 28-20 in 2010.
