OKLAHOMA CITY — A rally is scheduled in support of an Oklahoma pharmacist convicted of murder in the shooting death of a teenaged would-be robber.

The rally for Jerome Ersland is to begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma City Farmers Market and is to include comments by state Sen. Ralph Shortey and defense attorney Doug Friesen.

Ersland was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the May 2009 shooting death of Antwun Parker in which prosecutors said Ersland was justified when he shot Parker and knocked him unconscious. But prosecutors said Ersland went too far when he eventually picked up a second handgun and shot Parker five more times.

A jury rejected Ersland's claims of self-defense and convicted him of murder.

Ersland is appealing the conviction.
