OWASSO - A dominant running attack and a stifling defensive performance combined to give Owasso a 48-7 victory over the visiting Enid Plainsmen in Thursday's District 6A-1 matchup.
The Rams (5-2, 5-0 District 6A-1) rode the back of tailback Scottie Prealow who, after racking up 202 yards in Owasso's previous game, wasted little time picking up during his Senior Night performance.
The senior exploded for an 80-yard scoring run during Owasso's first play from scrimmage, and didn't stop racking up large chunks of yardage until he was removed with an injury late in the third quarter.
Prealow finished the game with 275 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, with a fourth TD coming on a 13-yard pass from Ram quarterback Jaylen Lowe.
"He's a heck of a football player," said Owasso head coach Bill Patterson. "He's had a great career here and he's a big part of what we do."
Enid (2-6, 0-5) tied the game on its ensuing possession with a 73-yard, 10-play drive that was capped with a 1-yard touchdown run by Plainsman quarterback Chance Pryor, but it would be their last as the Ram defense held EHS scoreless the remainder of the game.
Turnovers plagued Owasso throughout the game as Ram ballcarriers turned the ball over twice and Lowe was picked off twice, but the OHS defense forced 10 punts to prevent Enid's offensive possessions from ever becoming a scoring threat.
"I thought we maybe weren't in the mindset we needed to be on that first set, but the defense came back and played very well," Patterson said. "All in all, when you only give up seven points, you can't complain.
Owasso's second touchdown drive came on the Rams' second possession of the game when Prealow punched a 1-yard draw into the endzone, capping a 2:30 drive that gave OHS a 14-7 lead.
The 5-foot-6 back hit paydirt again to open the third quarter, this time converting a dump pass from Lowe for a 13-yard score.
Lowe finished his scoring with a 2-yard run at the 6:24 mark of the third quarter, helping push Owasso's lead to 31-7.
He would exit the game later in the quarter.
"He's fine," Patterson said. "He's got a leg bruise. He'll be fine."
Junior receiver Cole Neph caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Lowe in the opening minute of the fourth quarter before reserve running back Nathan Prentice finished Owasso's scoring with a 44-yard TD run four minutes later.
The win sets Owasso up with a chance to claim the District 6A crown next week when the Rams face Sand Springs.
"This is a special senior class. Like I told them before the game - it's Senior Night, but we have plans for a lot more football," Patterson said.
