A man wanted in the fatal shooting of his ex-wife’s boyfriend was found dead inside a motel room after a standoff with Tulsa police Friday morning.

Fugitive warrants detectives located Eliboreo Carillo, 35, at the Days Inn at 35 N. Sheridan Road at 1:30 a.m., police said. The Special Operations Team was dispatched to the scene 1½ hours later.

Carillo was named as a suspect in the Thursday slaying of Victor Hugo Soledad-Munoz, 32.

Police spoke by telephone with Carillo in his motel room, but Carillo stopped responding to officer’s attempts at contact around 7 a.m., said Officer Leland Ashley.

Several gunshot-like noises were heard inside the room at that time, but police were not immediately sure whether Carillo had injured himself, Ashley said.

Police then forced entry into the room shortly before 10 a.m. and found the man, who had previously identified himself to police as Carillo, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Ashley said.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently took custody of the body and will determine his cause and manner of death.

A warrant was issued for Carillo’s arrest after Thursday’s shooting.

Soledad-Munoz and Carillo’s three children — ages 7, 10 and 15 — were inside an SUV that was parked in the 11400 block of East 38th Street. Soledad-Munoz and his girlfriend, who is also Carillo’s ex-wife, were in the area looking at a home for rent when Soledad-Munoz was shot at about 5:20 p.m., said Capt. Rick Helberg.

Soledad-Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into Soledad-Munoz’s death is ongoing, Ashley said Friday.
