Tony Leach's letter ("Fair tax," Oct. 6) is very well written and gives the reasons why we should have a fair tax. However, whose fair tax? Even the title, fair tax, questions the statement itself. Really, can there be a fair tax and fair to whom? The progressive tax and current program is the fairest there is.
Usually, what I have found are those people who espouse the fair tax amendment are people who feel discriminated against since they are paying a higher tax rate than someone else.
In my estimation, to change a quote from the movie, "Trading Spaces," in the current tax code environment with few deductions, "They who pay the highest tax rate legally win." In other words, they are making the most money, and should be grateful for their income abundance and quit worrying about people who pay less.
Just go out and make more money.
