WEEK 7

1. Kansas State: The Kansas State athletic department mailed out award cards touting Optimus Klein. The cards were secured closed with a band-aid over a picture of the quarterback’s bandaged arm.

2. Oklahoma: You have to look forward. You can’t look back. But oh what the Sooners would do to get back at least one of two quarterback fumbles against Kansas State.

3. Texas Tech: Red Raiders looked overmatched and outclassed in home loss to Oklahoma. Since then, Tech has looked solid and could be positioning itself for a solid bowl game.

4. Texas: Mack Brown took a few jabs at the Longhorn Network on Monday. Then he was pulled away from his rant to go tape something for the Longhorn Network.

5. Oklahoma State: With two freshmen quarterbacks injured during the season, the Cowboys have to feel snakebit. Very impressive of J.W. Walsh to lead OSU to victory with knee injury.

6. West Virginia: The Mountaineers were college football’s darling just two weeks ago. After back-to-back losses to Texas Tech and Kansas State, everything has faded.

7. TCU: Another newcomer to the Big 12, the Frogs are learning that defense not only wins championships, it gets you among the upper tier of the conference.

8. Iowa State: Cyclones have lost three of four games with Baylor coming to town. Can ISU slow down the Bears?

9. Baylor: A history lesson — the Bears are now 23-108 in their Big 12 history and have given up 175 points in three conference games to become the first team to have 5,000 league points scored on it.

10. Kansas: Adding insult to injury, the Jayhawk mascot spent time in the second half of the Oklahoma loss with a backpack on, ready to excuse himself from Memorial Stadium.

BEST GAME

Notre Dame at Oklahoma, 7 p.m. Saturday, KTUL-8

This was predicted to be the best Big 12 nonconference game before the season began. Now it has taken on a life of its own as the Fighting Irish enter with a perfect record. Oklahoma is trying for just its second victory in 10 tries over Notre Dame in a lopsided series.

WORST GAME

Texas at Kansas, 11 a.m. Saturday, FSOK-27

The Jayhawks looked miserable against Oklahoma last weekend and face a Texas team still looking to salvage its season. The Longhorns are probably hoping for a “get-right” game defensively. UT has allowed an average of 53.7 points per game in its last three contests.
