The weather may be cooling off, but Owasso is keeping the heat on this Saturday at the fourth-annual Owasso Harvest Festival Chili Cook-Off.
Some of the best chili cooks in the world will be there, and you can taste their chilis and salsa. This year, there will also be a barbecue competition.
The reigning International Chili Society world champion and at least three former world champions will be competing to see who represents Oklahoma at the next ICS World Championship Chili Cook-Off.
New this year is the Pick 3 People's Choice BBQ competition. Competitors choose from six barbecue offerings and let those with tasting kits sample three. The choices are beef, pork, chicken wings, beans, bologna and sausage.
Tasting kits cost $3 for People's Choice chili/salsa, $3 for barbecue and a combo kit for $5. Proceeds go to the Owasso High School FFA.
The Owasso Harvest Festival Chili Cook-Off is presented by the Owasso Sertoma Club and is supported by a number of community businesses and organizations.
There are many other family activities, including inflatables, a climbing wall, trackless train, face painting, YMCA kids game tent and pony rides.
A costume contest for kids sponsored by Tippi Toes Dance will be held on the main chili stage at 2:30 p.m. with registration at the Tippi Toes booth. Live entertainment throughout the day on the main stage is being presented by Foyil Music Studio, Owasso. Free corn-on-the-cob will be handed out as long as it lasts by Freedom Church.
Admission and parking are free. Signs will direct spectators to the festival venues. For more information, go to tulsaworld.com/owassochili or the city's website at tulsaworld.com/cityowasso
