Correction: An item in Sunday’s Political Notebook included the wrong starting time for a Markwayne Mullin rally in Claremore on Monday. The rally will begin at 5 p.m. This story has been corrected.
An environmental
group presented
U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe its annual
Rubber Dodo Award, which
is given
annually to
“those who
have done
the most
to drive
endangered
species
extinct.
“When
it comes
to denying
the climate
crisis — the single-greatest
threat now facing life on Earth
— James Inhofe has few peers,”
said the Center for Biological
Diversity in announcing the
award.
Inhofe accepted with relish.
“I am truly honored that yet
another radical environmental
group has given me an award
for my efforts to put a stop
to President Obama’s far-left
global warming agenda,” Inhofe
said. “The Center for Biological
Diversity should be pleased to
know that my award will have
a prominent place in my office,
along with all the others I have
been proud to receive over the
years.”
Inhofe last week said the
Obama administration was
breaking the law by not properly
publishing proposed environmental
rules changes in the
Federal Register. The Environmental
Protection Agency did
not respond to the charge.
Inhofe also joined with Sen.
Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, in
asking for a hearing on California
gasoline prices, which recently
reached $4.70 a gallon.
Tulsa Dems turn out: Around
400 people attended the Tulsa
Democratic Party’s annual
bean supper on Thursday, the
event’s largest crowd in many
years.
Filling the main hall at the
Greenwood Cultural Center,
the dinner’s big draw was Black
Congressional Caucus Chairman
Emanuel Cleaver, a Missouri
representative from the
Kansas City area.
Cleaver said he was supposed
to be campaigning for
President Obama in Ohio,
but that he convinced House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi that
“Oklahoma needs love, too.”
In acknowledging the uphill
fight the party faces in Oklahoma,
Cleaver related the story
of an elderly black woman who
tried to block the advance of
Confederate troops by standing
in the middle of the road with
her broom.
“The officer in charge said,
‘Do you think you’re going to
stop (us) with that broom?’
She said, ‘No, I want to make
sure you know where I stand.’ ”
