Mr. Robert Steen Smith, 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Mr. Smith was born October 19, 1923 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Nell Katherine and William Ailshire Smith. Upon graduating from Holdenville High School in 1941, he enlisted to serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces, serving in the Philippines during World War II. A selfmade man of boundless drive, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma after his honorable discharge in 1946, graduating with a B.S. in Business in 1949. Mr. Smith began working at the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, now ONEOK, where he would stay for 37 years until his retirement, eventually serving as the company’s Vice President, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer. After marrying Patricia Anne Busey in Oklahoma City in 1953, the couple moved to Tulsa. Mr. Smith went back to school at the University of Tulsa, balancing a career and his growing family to graduate with a Juris Doctor in 1971. A 60-year resident of Tulsa, Mr. Smith was active in the city’s Kiwanis Club and worshipped at the First United Methodist Church of Tulsa. Mr. Smith will be remembered as a loyal, kind and dedicated man by his wife of 59 years, Patricia. He is also grieved by his daughter Robin Anne Libby Mason of Kiefer, OK; his daughter-in-law and son, Kathryn Jo and Craig Busey Smith of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Barbara Anne Niedergerke, Montgomery Perry Smith, Robert Scott Kessler, Nathan Craig Smith and Erin Elizabeth Kessler; and one great-grandson Kyle Thomas Niedergerke. Mr. Smith’s full and meaningful life was celebrated at a memorial service in the Coterie Theater at Montereau, 6800 S. Granite Avenue, Tulsa, OK, 74136.
