Beaming beauty: Custom home in Oak Country Estates showcases breathtaking features

One couple’s travels to Guatemala led to the inclusion of Spanish-inspired elements in their custom home in west Tulsa. Built in 2007 by John James Construction Inc., the distinctive two-story residence is located at 5268 Oak Timber Drive. The stucco facade has balanced elements that include several arched windows trimmed with shutters that echo the arches.
Homes in Oak Country Estates are large, and the lots are expansive. This estate is on one acre with a backyard that overlooks a valley.
“The lot size was a big draw for us,” said the wife. “We wanted to make a place that our children would enjoy. It’s a beautiful neighborhood, but it’s also someplace that the little ones can explore.”
Before they put in the swimming pool, the couple enjoyed taking their kids to swim at the Oaks Country Club. “It’s nice to have that nearby,” she said.
The Spanish architecture they saw during their trips to Guatemala was something the couple decided to incorporate into the design of the home.
“We always admired the arches and tile roofs and the brightness that we saw in the homes over there,” she said. “So we brought that back with us in a toned down way because my husband didn’t want the bright colors.”
The colors used in the home are softer than in Guatemalan homes, but the Spanish influence is still evident. “It’s Spanish, but you can also use Western or Southwest decor,” said Kathy Findahl, the Keller Williams Realtor representing the property.
The floors in the home are mostly maple with tile in the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry room. “One of the biggest things I like about the interior besides the arches is that there is no carpet,” said the wife. “It’s been such a blessing not to have to worry about somebody spilling something, and minimizing the allergens was a big thing for two of my children. I think the maple floors are beautiful.“
Three arches open the large living room to the foyer. The formal living room is the homeowner’s favorite living space.” A lot of homes today don’t have formal living because they aren’t used, but for me with four children, I enjoyed going in there in the morning to drink coffee and look outside. It’s nice to come in here when there were toys everywhere else. I also could turn on the fireplace.”
The living room opens to a large covered patio, which has a wood ceiling and three arches. Beyond them is a big swimming pool with lots of deck space to sunbathe and an enormous backyard.
The hearth room, which is located next to the spacious gourmet kitchen, also opens to the covered patio, creating a great flow for entertaining. A fireplace makes the hearth room the perfect choice for cozy gatherings.
The homeowners have just updated the large kitchen with more cabinetry and changed the finish on all of it. Granite-topped counter space is plentiful and includes an island.
A guest bedroom is on the main level, while the rest of the bedrooms are located upstairs, including the master suite. Two bedrooms share a bath, and one has its own.
The master suite is quite a retreat with a fireplace and large bathroom. It also has a private balcony that is as large as a patio. Iron railing embellishes the balcony, which overlooks the valley below. Also up is a large game room.
Listed for $649,000, the home will be open 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4. For more information or to make an appointment, contact Findahl at 918-606-4655.
