OU-Tulsa offers free talk to help kids learn

The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa, 4502 E. 41st St., is offering a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Thursday about methods to help children learn.

"Six Steps to Success: How to Help All Children Become Enthusiastic and Engaged Young Learners" is part of the OU-Tulsa Seed Sower series.

The speaker, Marilou Hyson, is an author and consultant in early child development and education. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.

The lecture is free, but attendees are requested to pre-register at tulsaworld.com/seedsower or by calling 918-660-3317.

Hyson will also be the keynote speaker at the OU Early Childhood Leadership Institute, a seminar scheduled for Friday and Saturday at OU-Tulsa. Friday's keynote speech is titled "How Curriculum Can Be Academically Effective and Deeply Engaging for Young Children," and Saturday's is titled "From Discouraged Learners to Engaged Explorers: Growing the Potential of All Children."

The event will also include breakout sessions on both days and lunch on Friday. Registration is $90 for both days or $50 for Saturday. Participants can register at the door on the day of the event, or in advance at tulsaworld.com/OUearlychildhood
