BARTLESVILLE — A 20-year-old Bartlesville man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the slaying of his grandmother, police said.

Concerned neighbors discovered 81-year-old Clara Jean Hammer unresponsive in her home in the 4700 Block of Dartmouth Avenue around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Evidence at the scene led police to investigate her death as a homicide, police said.

Police did not say Wednesday whether any type of trauma was evident on the woman’s body.

They did say in a press release, however, that “the victim’s vehicle was missing from the residence and it appeared the suspect or suspects may have taken the vehicle.”

Police found Hammer’s missing 2001 Oldsmobile Bravado at an apartment complex a few blocks away.

When Hammer’s grandson Brandon William Capps and another man approached the car around 4:30 p.m., they were taken into custody, police said.

After interviewing both men, police arrested Capps around 8:50 p.m. and released the other man.

Capps is in the Washington County Jail on complaints of murder, unauthorized use of a vehicle, grand larceny, selling stolen property and concealing stolen property, police said.
