Letter to the Editor: What if?

There are a few scenarios in which the presidential election could end in an Electoral College tie of 269-269 (270 are necessary to win). What if this happens? Fortunately, thanks to the 12th Amendment (ratified in 1804), we the people have an answer.
The newly elected House of Representatives would determine the presidency. In this case, each state receives one vote. Republican Mitt Romney would likely prevail because there will be more states supporting him. However, across the hall in the Senate chamber, the vice president would be selected. Unlike the House, each senator has one vote. Should the Democrats retain control of the Senate, then it is possible Barack Obama would be elected vice president.
What if we had a Romney/Obama administration? It might be just what our country needs.
