Letter to the Editor: God not a Republican

This is in response to Larry
Knight’s letter (“Think before
voting,” Oct. 29): Knight says
he doesn’t understand how
Bible believers could vote for
Democrats. Knight’s lack of
understanding carries with it
the implication that in order
to please God in America, one
must vote Republican.
There are many realities
that Knight is blind to. But I
will point out just one thing,
which is that God is not a Republican.
In fact, God is not
an American.
From this perspective, I
hope Larry Knight will understand
that many view the
opportunity to vote in America’s
democratic process as a
way to promote a society that
benefits everyone, believers
and nonbelievers, not solely
as a way to promote our religious
beliefs.
I am a Catholic. I believe
the Bible is the word of God. I
go to mass every week.
