Taleya Mayberry

The senior from Booker T. Washington has started all 81 games in her career. A preseason All-Conference USA selection, Mayberry averages 13.9 points per game. Mayberry ranks fifth in school history in points and is also in the top 10 in steals, assists and 3-point field goals made. She had 20 points in 25 minutes last week against Rogers State.

Tiffani Couisnard

The 6-1 senior from Houston is Tulsa's leading returning rebounder, averaging eight per game in 2011-12. Couisnard is one of only three forwards on the TU roster. She's a three-year letterwinner and is 10th in school history in blocks, with 45. She's played in 83 games, including 36 starts. She has five career double-doubles.

THREE STORYLINES

Can the momentum continue?

The Tulsa women’s basketball team had an eight-game turnaround from 2010-11, winning 13 games in Matilda Mossman’s first season as head coach. The Golden Hurricane erased the memories of that 1-15 Conference USA campaign by going 8-8 last season, its best C-USA mark since a 13-3 effort in 2005-06. Tulsa tries to take another step forward, led by three returning starters.

Will “outside in” work for TU?

The Golden Hurricane will be a little thin inside, with just three forwards on its roster. TU does have quality at the position, as senior Tiffani Couisnard and junior Loren McDaniel combined for 12 points and nearly 14 rebounds per game last season. The Hurricane will try to play up-tempo with its guards, but the forwards must avoid foul trouble.

Fantastic freshmen

TU has four new players on its roster and all four could make an immediate impact. Freshmen guards Kelsee Grovey of Shawnee and Ashley Clark of Midwest City were in the starting lineup for the exhibition victory over Rogers State. Clark had 12 points in 22 minutes.
