The Tulsa Fire Department has confirmed that an elderly woman was found dead during a fire early Tuesday.

Firefighters responding to a duplex fire in the 2300 block of West Reading Place found the woman's body inside the garage, said Fire Capt. Stan May.

Residents were able to evacuate the adjoining townhouse and were assisted by the Tulsa-chapter of the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire that started in the kitchen and spread to the living room and garage has not been determined, May said.

Fire officials do not believe the blaze is suspicious. The home sustained about $50,000 in damage, May said.

The name of the victim is not being released pending family notification.
