STILLWATER - Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy broke his silence on the health status of Wes Lunt, saying during a SiriusXM radio interview Monday morning that he hopes the freshman quarterback will be "back out there" for a Tuesday practice.

A few hours later, while meeting with reporters following his weekly press conference, Gundy said, "I would expect that Wes would practice this week and we would split the reps. That's what we did last week and I'm guessing that's what we would do again this week."

Lunt left a Saturday game against Kansas State early in the third quarter with what could be described as concussion-type symptoms. Gundy said Lunt got "dinged" and was taken out of the game for safety reasons.

OSU next plays a 2:30 p.m. Saturday home game against West Virginia. The Cowboys would like to have their starter available, but they also want to proceed with caution.

"It's been unfortunate that, probably over the last year, starting with his senior year of high school with the knee injury and then this, he can't just get started and keep going. You can't build on things," offensive coordinator Todd Monken said.

"Hopefully, he will be fine tomorrow and we will be able to get him back and see where he is from there. He is a young player. You want to make sure he is healthy and he is back and his confidence level is there and his belief in himself is there because that can easily be shaken."

Clint Chelf came off the bench after Lunt was hurt in the Kansas State game and threw for 233 second-half yards.
