Letter to the Editor: Accept responsibility

My husband and I have attended Victory Christian Center for the past 25 years. I can say that the Daugherty family has a sincere concern for the welfare of everyone, but this time they blew it in the handling of sexual abuse incidents at Victory Church.
This is not "an attack of the devil." This is a clear failure to comply in a timely manner with the law and an effort to protect oneself above the interest of a child. Pastor Sharon Daugherty and her team need to step up and accept responsibility for the failure to timely report the abuse upon a child (children) in her own church properly.
Also she needs to humbly confess that their response to this abuse has been wrongly handled and accept the consequences of their actions. This willingness from the pastor would send a message that children at Victory are protected.
