BIXBY - Firefighters from three departments are battling a large grass fire southeast of Bixby.

Crews from the Bixby, Stone Bluff and Liberty fire departments have been working to contain the blaze since Wednesday night near Bixby Ranch Estates in the area of 161st East Avenue and 181st Street, firefighters said.

They described the fire as “pretty big” but were unable to specify the size of the area affected. Bixby firefighter Ryan King said it may have burned up to 100 acres.

He said the blaze was partially contained by about 5:15 p.m. Thursday because crews had been able to access a previously blocked area on the south side of the fire line.

Firefighters said heavy smoke reported Thursday in south and east Tulsa was likely due to the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

No structures were in immediate danger, firefighters said.
